What Is Kratom?

Kratom, or Mitragyna Speciosa, is an evergreen tree related to Coffee. This tree can grow to heights over 80 feet tall and is native to regions of Southeast Asia. The leaves from the Kratom tree have been in use in the traditional medicine practices of these areas for centuries.

Traditionally, workers would pluck Kratom leaves straight from the tree and chew on them throughout their workdays to stave off pain and fatigue. Tea brewed from the leaves was also a common vehicle for the herb’s healing properties.

Today, Kratom has made it a long way from Southeast Asia. To do so, it is not often found as fresh leaves, either. The Kratom we get in the West undergoes a process of harvesting, drying, and then grinding. Fortunately, this process makes Kratom easier to use and measure.

What Is Bali Kratom?

Unlike most Kratom strains, Bali Kratom is not named for the place in which it grows. Bali Kratom actually hails from Borneo, in the JongKong region of Indonesia. The area’s fertile soil and ample rain produce robust, towering Kratom trees with huge leaves.

So, why is it called Bali, then? Bali is a major port for the sale and distribution of Kratom. While this strain is grown in Borneo, it goes through the ports of Bali to reach its various international destinations.

Bali Kratom Effects

Bali Kratom strains have consistent benefits. These strains have 24 active alkaloids, the parts of Kratom that cause its beneficial effects. Many strains have only 10-15 active alkaloids, making Bali strains a potent choice. These strains are so potent because of the rich soils where they grow in Indonesia.

What About Color Veins?

If you’ve done any Kratom shopping, you likely know that Kratom comes in 3 main colors – red, green, and white. These colors actually refer to the veins on the leaf itself. Each Kratom strain will come in each of these color vein options. Now, while Kratom strains will have unique effects, there are broad characteristics of each color vein that are consistent:

  • Red Vein Kratom — Offers the most potent pain relief. Also the most sedative of the colors. Great for night time.
  • White Vein Kratom — Almost like a coffee replacement, many choose white vein Kratom for the start of their day. Improves focus and mental clarity, with a boost in energy.
  • Green Vein Kratom — a sort of middle road between white and red veins. Green Kratom offers moderate pain relief while calming the mind. Many people reach for green strains to calm social anxieties.

These color differences are the result of different levels of maturity throughout the life of the Kratom tree. When a Kratom tree is very young, the veins on the leaves appear white. Immature Kratom trees produce white Kratom. As the tree matures, the veins of the leaves take on a reddish hue. Kratom trees at this mid-life stage produce red Kratom. And as the trees reach full maturity, the leaf veins turn green; the source of green Kratom.
